“The Oath” Receives 2016 BAIPA Book Award for Fiction

Standard

I was honored recently by having my novel, The Oath, awarded the 2016 Bay Area Independent Publishers Association (BAIPA) Book Award for Fiction.

Funny how this book business works: you get frustrated because it’s so damn hard to get your work recognized by anyone but your wife and kids (and even that is sometimes dicey – ha ha). And then you get a call from a well-known and well-respected publishers’ association saying they have given your work their highest fiction award.

2016 BAIPA Book Award for Best Fiction- "The Oath"It’s two weeks later and I’m still riding that high.

In case you haven’t read The Oath, I (and now BAIPA) highly recommend it. The novel has sold well, but particularly well in veterans’ circles … especially Vietnam veterans.

The title of the novel refers to the Oath that all military personnel take “to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic … so help me God.”

I knew what a “foreign enemy” was. That’s a no-brainer. But I started wondering who the heck would be a “domestic enemy”?

Forty years ago, two young Naval aviators took the Oath. Both were shot down over North Vietnam and together endured years of brutal torture as prisoners of war in the infamous Hanoi Hilton.

Four decades later, one is a San Francisco Homicide Inspector. The other has decided it’s payback time and has begun killing selected Americans who went to North Vietnam to aid the enemies cause.

The Oath they took so long ago is about to bring their lives together once again. This time with explosive consequences.

The paperback can be purchased on Amazon or from this website. The electronic version is available on Amazon’s Kindle as well as Smashwords.com (for Nook, iPad, etc.)
